About our ingredients

We are proud of our high quality ingredients and give you full disclosure on every label so you know exactly what you are putting on your body. Our goal is to educate you about ingredients as potential allergens or impurities because so many of our customers deal with skin problems or sensitivities. Below are some answers to commonly asked questions, especially for those who are looking for a more natural lifestyle. Thank you for taking the time to learn and please feel free to ask any questions you have.

1. Certified Organic Coconut Oil - the very best oil for making a hard bar of soap with great lather. Coconut Oil has many antiseptic and antifungal properties as well.

2. Certified Organic Sustainable Palm Oil - another essential soap making oil, but we use one that is earth-friendly and does not short out the world's supply of palm trees.

3. Certified Organic Cold-Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil -  one of the most prized soap ingredients for its moisturizing capabilities. Ancient civilizations used olive oil to help heal wounds and protect their skin from damage. Most soap makers use a low grade or pomace olive oil that is the last pressing of the fruit, which contains the greatest amount of impurities. Lower grade olive oil is much easier to work with (and still makes a very good soap), but we are very strict about using the highest food grade of olive oil possible and we feel it makes a wonderful difference - especially for those with extremely sensitive skin.

4. Certified Organic High-Oleic Sunflower Oil - this oil is high in Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, and adds wonderful moisture and lather to our special recipe.

5. Soap may contain texture additives, such as certified organic ground oatmeal, certified organic cornmeal, certified organic poppy seeds, and chemical free and/or homegrown herbs.

6. Pure Essential Oils - High grade essential oils from real plants and flowers have therapeutic benefits, while adding a luxurious scent to the soap.

Why "organic"?
In our business, we meet people all the time who have extreme skin issues and chemical sensitivities who cannot use most - or any - other products. We believe in using ingredients that are the closest to the way God created them - without chemical solvents being used in the processing - and have witnessed the results in our customers. Sometimes there is debate among companies arguing that organic is "all hype", or simply a government excuse to charge more money. We believe organic growers and distillers willing to pay and go through certification are strong believers in keeping their products pure, and many studies we read support the fact that organic ingredients contain fewer chemicals (or none at all) vs. conventional. We realize "organic" and "all natural" can be overused terms. However, buying truly organic products does not always have to mean a high price tag, or that you look down on non-certified organic, you just may have highly sensitive skin and are looking for greater purity.  We strongly support other handmade natural or organic companies, because making from scratch with raw ingredients is far more beneficial, in our opinion and experience, than commercially produced products. Buy handmade, buy local, and keep small businesses running!

We have two varieties of soap: vegan soap with certified organic shea butter, and vegetarian soap with Farm Fresh Raw Goat Milk. We use a cold process method at the lowest possible temperature, retaining the precious antioxidants your skin begs for and thus protecting your skin from free radical damage caused by overheated (rancid) oils.

Your skin is your largest organ and absorbs everything you put on it. If you experience dry skin, oily skin, acne, eczema, psoriasis, or other skin problems, consider handcrafted products!

Soaps
made with organic ingredients are considered zero-toxin.

Handcrafted soaps (and lotions) are known to be very balancing to the skin. It does not leave a greasy film, nor does it dry out the skin. Our products work for all skin types and are ideal for even the most sensitive skin.

Our handcrafted soap works very well as a stain remover stick. Real soap bubbles work as a catalyst to pull out dirt and stains. These bars are fabulous in your own handmade laundry soap. Just use any recipe on the internet that calls for store-bought bar soap. Save a bundle!

Handmade soap is high in natural glycerin, unlike commercial soap which is essentially a detergent. The glycerin has been stripped away (and sold as "glycerin soap") and other chemicals take its place. Store bought soap also contains tallow ("sodium tallowate") which is the fat around the kidneys of cows or pigs. Whatever scientific name they choose to use, the quality of ingredients are far inferior to handmade soap, which is why commercial soap is cheaper and doesn't last as long.

When "fragrance" is listed as an ingredient, it can contain hundreds of chemicals such as pthalates, which are synthetic hormones that can interfere with your own hormones. Essential oils, however, are derived directly from the plant and are completely natural - and often have therapeutic qualities.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a cheap, harsh chemical foaming detergent used in soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, and shaving creams. Often the name is changed, or the label will say "coconut derived" but it is still the same chemical. Sulfates (also listed as "something" sulfate such as coco-sulfate, laureth sulfate, etc) are known to cause skin irritations and strips away the body's natural, protective skin oils.

Formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, is also present in many body care products, without being listed on the label.

We encourage you to ask questions about ingredients, read labels, and consider supporting handmade body care.
